It's been a fun ride, but yes it's true...

This is a copy of what was sent out to the CTP Mailing List at the end of September.

Below are listener comments that have been sent to us. Thanks for your support!

On The Air

“When’s the Carolina Tailgate Party going to be back on Radio Margaritaville?” If that’s the question you’re wondering then you’re not alone. I’ve probably heard that question about a thousand times this summer. There are two answers to this, a long one and a short one. The long answer deals with lots of management types of decisions, philosophies on formats, a lot of real corporate-speak like those old Dilbert cartoons and that sort of thing. It’s really a pretty boring long answer. The short answer in layman’s terms is that, like you see on TV, the show’s been cancelled.

Now, before you jump on the “reply” button, read on.

 On The Road

This weekend we’re at one of our favorite places, Carolina Beach. Pleasure Island is the place we’ve been to over and over more often than any other place, it’s their annual Beach Sweep with some great music going on, but also it’s the grand finale recording of our little Carolina Tailgate Party. We’re really looking forward to ending this thing with our most supportive listeners and sending this off like the old Viking ships; off to sea and on fire! J

A Big Thank You!

First off, we want to thank all the folks that made this experiment possible for us. We started this thing off with a beer and a smile and a half-baked idea. Over the last year and a half, this thing has grown way farther than Tuff or I ever imagined it would go. I can’t even begin to tell y’all the personal satisfaction it is to work at something like this and produce something that people enjoyed. Here we are just about a year and a half and a good chunk of change later since that first show with the Parrothead Club of Charlotte’s pre-concert party and I can tell you that it’s been an awesome ride. We’ve met so many incredible people all over the country (not to mention in Central America too), and have been fortunate to record and bring to you so many great independent artists that would otherwise not be heard and appreciated, we walk away with a big smile and a sense of satisfaction that it was all worth it.

This has been one of the greatest roller-coaster rides we’ve ever been on and the thanks goes especially to the folks reading this mail; the folks who listened, enjoyed what we made, and signed up to be on this list (unless of course you’re one of those people I just happened on your email address, in which case, hey, we like you too! J).  Thank you, from the bottom of our hearts, to all of you that enjoyed and supported our show. That means a lot!

 So, what now?

It’s not like we’re gonna vanish off the face of the earth! You can’t get rid of us that easily! J  Tuff and I both have some various projects going on outside of the show. We all know how well the coconut telegraph gets the news around, so I’m sure you’ll hear about our various projects!  Will the Carolina Tailgate Party be on the air again anywhere? Who knows. This incarnation of the show ends this weekend in Carolina Beach. Our plans are to head to Meeting of the Minds and party like everyone else (which is to say our next appearance is probably in the gutter somewhere between Captain Tony’s and Schooner’s Wharf J)… What’s to come in the future, who knows.

What about the shows we’ve recorded since Radio Margaritaville went to Sirius but haven’t ever aired? All of these shows, including the final 2 that I still need to do some post-production work on, are sent to Radio Margaritaville and Sirius to air at will.  We will be posting these shows on carolinatailgate.com for you to listen to, however. Keep checking in to find those shows (I’m listening to one now and there’s some great music on these).

The web site is still around, we’re still planning our trip to Honduras in February (see http://www.carolinatailgate.com/honduras for more info), and we’re looking forward to attending some of these great events around the country just as a couple of Parrotheads. If something new comes up, I’ll let you know for sure!

Again, thank you so much for supporting us and nothing sends us down the road to the next opportunity with a bigger smile than to know that you enjoyed our work. Please continue to support independent musicians out there that work to entertain Parrotheads like you!

Until then… we’ll see ya down the road!

Listener Comments

Brian & Tuff,

In response to your latest newsletter, just let me say that Radio Margaritaville will be diminished by not airing the Carolina Tailgate show.

I know that you have cultivated many faithful listeners over the last year and a half that will miss the show greatly. I for one, will continue to follow your antics and hope to join you in the gutters of Key West in November. Hell, I think we spent some time together there last year as well

I want to tell you both as a friend and loyal listener, thank you. Thank you for the show, for stealing MY hula girl, and for the unwavering support the show and both of you have given to Paramedics For Children. My hats off to both of you for the pleasure your show has given so many people and for the promotion you have given to so many Parrothead club charities. The show will be missed.

See you in the gutters of Key West in November and the mountains of Honduras in February and at the beach this afternoon. Good Job!

Pam

Life should not be a journey to the grave with the intention of arriving safely in a pretty and well preserved body, but rather a skid to the broadside, thoroughly used up, totally worn out, and loudly proclaiming - "WOW! What a ride!"

Just wanted to share with you guys something cool that we got in the mail yesterday....

When we came to Honduras in February and then Brian and Tuff's show aired on Radio M'Ville in April, a fellow Kansas Citian stationed in Iraq with the Army Reserve heard us and e-mailed asking if he could join our club. Turns out he had been stationed in Honduras years ago. We put together a Parrot Head care package with everything one would need to throw a party except the tequila and started up the "Mid East Division" of the KC Parrot Head Club.  We adopted this unit of 130 folks who are City Planners, City Managers, Architects, Lawyers, Construction Engineers, Environmental Engineers, Plumbers, Electricians, Heating and Air Technicians.....all basically sent in to rebuild for 18 months. We hadn't heard if our package had been received or not but yesterday, we got a package in the mail.

In this package was a flag and a certificate.  A flag was flown over Iraq on September 11th in honor of the KC Parrot Head Club.  The certificate includes a photo showing the flag flying over Iraq.

It's funny how the world works....I ended up in the wrong bar in Key West but stayed to have a drink anyway and met Pam and Rodger which ultimately ended up with us going to Honduras where we met Brian and Tuff who got us on Radio Margaritaville which connected us with a Parrot Head from our own city working in Iraq.

I have been waiting patiently for the return of the the tailgate.  Now, the wait appears to be in vain.  With that being said, this parrot head in Lexington, KY thoroughly enjoyed your bi-weekly excursions.  Not only did I win a t-shirt (not big enough - my kid loves it), but you developed a life-long fan in the Bluegrass state.

You all are a class act, with all the groups that you have helped.  I am sorry that I did not make it down to one of your parties.

I do hope that Sirius will find a home for you guys.  I bought Sirius a year before RM signed on, but I listened on the net because of shows like yours.

Until then, fins up and fly straight.  What you do is unique and I do believe that the Tailgate will drop down and be heard from again.  I hope so.

Thank you.

Hank
