Last
year, we headed down for our first trip to the country of Honduras. It was an
interesting experience and we got a great
show out of the trip. It was also a very moving experience for everyone that
went. It moved us to the point where we need some help getting the word out to
the Parrothead world about the place and the people.
That
said, we're recruiting 20 people to come with us on our
2nd trip to the Phlocking of the
Parrothead Club of
Honduras Feb 7-12, 2006. Wanna go? Here's our itinerary:
Day 1
- Feb 7, 2006
You
fly to San Pedro Sula, Honduras. Since everyone is
coming from a different place, you will need to arrange
your own flight. It will be easy, however, for everyone
to meet in San Pedro Sula because you must arrive on one
of these connecting flights from the USA so that you
arrive in time to still drive up to the mountains in the
daylight:
-
Continental 830 - Arrives from Houston at 12:09pm on
Feb 7, 2006
-
American 941 - Arrives from Miami at 2:25pm on Feb
7, 2006
|
 |
When you arrive, we'll
pile all our recruits on the bus and head up the
mountains to Copan Ruinas. That night, everyone will
have a chance to meet the other recruits at our opening
night festivities, then crash and get a good night's
sleep. |
|
Days 2, 3, 4, and 5 - Feb
8-11, 2006
We're working out the
activities for these days, but we do plan to break up
the group into smaller groups and head out for some of
these activities: |
|
School Supply Delivery
Mission: You'll head up the mountain on "The Mule" with
school supplies to one of the villages with Paramedics
for Children. On the way back down, there's the
obligatory "Parrothead beer stop" at a bed and
breakfast. |
 |
 |
Horseback
Supply Mission: You'll go on
horseback out past the "Copan International Airport" to
see some of the outlying villages in the Copan Ruinas
area as well as hear the story of Buffitta the cow, and
deliver more supplies with PFC. |
| "Happy Angels" - This is
one of our favorite places to visit and the beneficiary
of the Carolina Tailgate Angel Drive. We'll head down to
visit the kids, play some games, and you'll see the
place first hand. On this day, we'll also stay in the
town of Copan Ruinas and go to the market for
some quality shopping time. :) |

The Copan Ruins -
You'll head out for a tour of the Copan Ruins.
Copan is
considered the Maya's crowning artistic
achievement because of its unique and abundant,
high relief style of stone sculpture. If Tikal
in Guatemala, with its towering temples, could
be compared to New York, Copan, it is said,
would be Paris. In addition to possessing the
most intricately and artistically carved stone
sculpture, Copan is the most intensely studied
and best understood of all Maya sites. After
decades of world class archaeological study,
which has been featured often in magazines like
National Geographic, Copan is the only site to
yield the remains of a Maya queen. They've found
two, actually. The impressive, world class Copan
Sculpture Museum was constructed to display and
protect the majority of the site's original
sculpture. The museum's four-story centerpiece,
the striking "Rosalila" temple, is a full-scale
replica of a temple recently excavated beneath
the Acropolis. |

Each night - The Honduras
Phlocking continues with live music nightly |

Day 5 - Feb 12, 2006
We head back down the
mountain to San Pedro Sula to fly back home.
Your flight out should be
11:00am or later on Sunday 2/12. Ideal options are:
-
TACA 390 - Departs San Pedro Sula 11:20am on Feb 12,
2006
-
Continental 831 - Departs from San Pedro Sula at 12:55pm
on Feb 12, 2006
-
American 942 - Departs San Pedro Sula at 3:25pm on
Feb 12, 2006
